Fight Like a Girl!
The obvious and most important reason for a girl to get involved in the martial arts is the capacity for self-defense that she will develop. In today's increasingly violent world, crime can strike anywhere. Women are often times the target of sex crimes and, not knowing how to defend themselves, it can scar a young girl for her entire life. Being able to know how to defend herself is an invaluable tool as she grows up, taking her skills with her to college, and it gives not only her but also her parents a feeling that at least their daughter is safe.
The martial arts give girls the means by which to develop high self-esteem and self-confidence. In the martial arts, everyone is valued as an individual for not only their actions but also their personality. As girls grow into their pre-teen and teenage years, there's a multitude of issues that come with that development. Carlstadt was originally formed as a village by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on March 12, 1860, within Lodi Township. It was named after Dr. Carl Klein, the leader of a group of early German settlers who led the project to establish the community. The Borough of Carlstadt was incorporated on June 27, 1894, formally set off from Bergen Township, at the height of the Boroughitis phenomenon then sweeping through Bergen County.
Carlstadt is bordered on the south by East Rutherford in Bergen County, Secaucus and North Bergen in Hudson County, on the north by Wood-Ridge and Moonachie (Bergen) to the east by Ridgefield and South Hackensack (Bergen), and to the northwest by Wallington (Bergen). It is approximately 8 miles (13 km) northwest of New York City and 95 miles (153 km) northeast of Philadelphia.
